During their Fifth and Last Semesters they will concentrate on Core Courses, Open Course, and an Elective Course. The Core Courses include Economics of Capital Market, Macroeconomics, India‘s Economic Development, International Economics, Mathematical Economics, Public Finance, And Development Economics. The Open Course now providing is Economics in Everyday life and the Elective Course is Economics of Business and Finance. The theoretical and practical knowledge acquired by the student during the first five semesters is perfected through intensive dissertation work during the final semester of the course. Overview
B.Sc. Computer ScienceProgram overviewThe B.Sc course in Computer Science started during the year 2001-02. The strength of a batch is 36. Presently B.Sc Computer Science has 18 main papers and 4 subsidiary papers. Out of 36 seats in the first semester of B.Sc Computer Science, 20% is reserved for the Muslim backward community, 20% for SC/ST, 20% for management quota, 2 seats for sports quota, 3% for handicapped, and the rest for general merit. Entry RequirementsThe basic eligibility for admission to B.Sc. Computer Science is a pass in 10+2 with science subjects. The candidates who have studied a paper in mathematics at the plus 2 level are also considered for the programme. Program structureDuration: The duration of the B.Sc. Computer Science Programme shall be 6 semesters distributed over a period of 3 academic years. The odd semesters (1, 3, 5) shall be from June to October and the even Semesters (2, 4, 6) shall be from November to March. Each semester shall have 90 working days inclusive of all examinations. Courses: A student shall be permitted to appear for the semester examination, only if he/she secures not less than 75% attendance in each semester. Attendance shall be maintained by the concerned Department. Condonation of shortage of attendance to a maximum of 9 days in a semester subject to a maximum of two times during the whole period of the B.Sc. Computer Science Programme may be granted by the University. Benefits of attendance may be granted to students who attend the approved activities of college/university with prior concurrence of the Head of the institution. Participation in such activities may be treated as presence in lieu of their absence on production of participation/attendance certificate in curricular/extracurricular activities. It should be limited to 9 days in a semester. The condonation of shortage of attendance shall be granted according to the existing prescribed norms. If a student registered in the first semester of the B.Sc. Computer Science Programme is continuously absent from the classes for more than 14 working days at the beginning of the semester without informing the authorities, the matter shall immediately be brought to the notice of the Registrar of the university. The names of such students shall be removed from the rolls. Project: Every student of the B.Sc. Computer Science Programme shall have to work on a project of not less than 2 credits under the supervision of a faculty member as per the curriculum. Extension Activities: Compulsory social service (CSS) for a period of 15 days is essential for the successful completion of the B.Sc. Computer Science Programme. Career opportunitiesAfter the successful completion of the course, students can join MSc Computer Science and MCA courses in reputed institutions. After acquiring the Bachelor’s Degree (B.Sc. Computer Science) at the University of Calicut, there is further educational opportunity to go for an MCA or other Master’s Programme like MSc (Computer Science), MSc (IT), MBA, etc., at this university or at any other University/Institute. The meritorious students can join the PG courses with stipends provided by various institutions. There is a great opportunity for the students to bag IT jobs and can be well placed in various companies like Infosys, Wipro, IBM, TCS, etc all over India as well as abroad. The course equips the students to get deep knowledge on software development. Seminars on topics of current importance help the students update with the recent improvements in computer applications. We guide the students to attend job-oriented courses which facilitate them to grab jobs in various sectors of the software industry. It also provides an upper edge for them in the interviews. It is applicable to various disciplines of medicine, health, veterinary, agriculture, bioengineering, etc. Human welfare, particularly its medical and nutritional aspects, has been improved by our rapidly growing knowledge in Biochemistry. Further advances in this field will undoubtedly lead to even more spectacular gains in our ability to understand nature. Moreover, it provides employment opportunities in fields like pharmaceuticals, agriculture, medicine, research, and development. VisionTo be recognized as a center for excellence in Biochemistry that provides an atmosphere to acquire skills in identifying the link between biological and human resources and transform it to enhance the quality of life. The Department aims to develop internationally competitive professionals with excellent leadership, communication, and teamwork skills who can contribute to an exceptional talent pool. MissionThe main objective of this course is to teach the students the basic concepts of Biochemistry with a special focus on both animal and plant metabolism, giving importance to the human system. The subsidiaries like Chemistry and Microbiology will aid the students for a better understanding of Biochemistry. The Department has a high academic profile with an overall pass percentage of 85% in the University examinations and has produced four University ranks so far. During the past years, the Department has conducted National seminars and workshops. In the future, the Department is planning to introduce a PG program in Biochemistry. Entry RequirementsThe admission to the UG program is based on the merit of Plus Two in the Science stream (reservations as per the norms of the Government of Kerala). Program structureThe Department of Biochemistry was started on 16-10-2004 as per the U.O.No. GA 1/DI/3792/2004 dated 16-10-2004 with B.Sc. Biochemistry as core, Chemistry and Microbiology as compulsory and optional complementary respectively, with an intake of 36 students. The Calicut University Choice Based Credit Semester System (CUCBCSS-UG) B.Sc. Biochemistry degree program comes under the Language Reduced Programme (LRP) which gives thrust to main subjects by reducing the language courses. The total credits of all the courses under the program are 120 and the program duration is 3 years. Total credits for Core courses is 56, for Complementary courses the credit is 24 and for Open course is 2. Total credits for languages is 22 and for general it is 16. Master’s Degree in Economics
The Master’s Degree programmes in Economics at EMEA College of Arts & Science offer a unique opportunity for students to display ingenuity and innovation. The program focuses on both academic and applied branches of Economics, closely linked with human behavior, governments, and industries, exposing students to the latest developments in the field.
Entry Requirements: Minimum requirement is a pass in BA Economics Programme or B.Sc. Statistics with 60% marks.
Program Structure: The Master’s Degree programme spans four semesters and requires a total of 64 credits. The first year covers courses in Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Indian Economy, Public Finance, and Quantitative Methods for Economic Analysis. The second year includes specialized courses such as International Trade, Growth & Development, Banking, Basic Econometrics, International Finance, Financial Markets, Mathematical Economics, and Research Methodology, culminating in a thesis report.
